Marin Catholic Students Row to Victory for Marin Rowing

Just up the road from Marin Catholic, based in Greenbrae, is home to the nationally recognized junior rowing team of Marin Rowing Association.  Without any high school rowing programs in Marin County, students throughout Marin, who are interested in this sport, find their way to Marin Rowing each fall where they face rigorous, competitive tryouts to make the team. Members of the team who attend MC speak about balancing the discipline of Marin Rowing and the rigor of their academics at Marin Catholic, often finding that the two complement each other.

The 2012 U.S. Rowing Southwest Regional Junior District Championships were recently held May 5-6 on Lake Natoma north of Sacramento. It was a thrilling weekend as some of our Marin Catholic students competed with their team mates in Men’s and Women’s ‘sweep oar 8 boats’ and other boat formats in this important rowing championship. These athletes have trained tirelessly since last August with the guidance of a phenomenal coaching staff and helped contribute to the overall medal count for Marin Rowing which was awarded with 4 bronze, 5 silver, and 12 gold medals in 21 of the Championship races.  Of special note is that all the Novice Men’s boats took home gold medals, and one of the Novice Women’s boats capped off an undefeated season with the gold medal for the first time in 8 years.

Congratulations to all our Marin Catholic students as noted below who recently competed as Marin Rowing athletes at the U. S. Rowing Regional Championships!
