Meeting called to order at 7:00p.m..
- Head Baseball Coach Mike Firenzi was our guest speaker and addressed the meeting. Growing up in Marin County, Coach Firenzi played baseball and graduated in 1983 from Redwood High School. He came to Marin Catholic baseball as an assistant coach and took over the head coach position in 1990. Opening his 18th season this year Coach Firenzi says MC is a great place to coach. He loves being around his players and admires their enduring camaraderie. He appreciates all the support he receives from the Athletic Department and says that our MC baseball field is one of the greatest facilities in Northern California. Overseeing the baseball program, Coach Firenzi has two Freshman, three JV and four Varsity Coaches. He attempts to spend time with each level but game schedules make it difficult. Firenzi says his coaching is not just about baseball. He tries to instill even temperaments and asks his players to look a person in the eye and to be respectful. Naming himself an “old school” coach, he believes in shining cleats and hustling on and off the field. Referring to his decision to move MC to a higher playoff bracket, Coach Firenzi believes, “If we are good, we should play the best. If I have a good pitcher on the mound, I’ll play anyone in the country.” League games begin March 4.
- Minutes were approved by Ann Thalman, seconded by Sue Miller.
- Finance—Reporting for Tom O’Neill, Sue Miller stated the Boosters were budgeted at $96,000 for this year and as of 1/31/08 our actual was $120,000. Our largest income sources are Membership, Golf Tournament and Snack Shack with the Crab Feed transitioning into a Booster appreciation event.
- Golf Tournament—Co-chair Kim Morgan says she anticipates increased costs for the event next year and would like to propose the Golf Tournament scheduled on 9/22 Monday move to Friday, September 26, 2008 to increase participation and dinner attendance.
- Membership—Referring to our current Boosters mailer designed by John Lyons, Sue Miller asked for any feedback or suggestions for the flyer for next year.
- Snack shack—Baseball coordinator, Beth Walker said the Freshman, JV and Varsity parents will work their own snack shacks. Thanks to Lisa Pennington for having a gas BBQ grill delivered. Many thanks to Cindy Arana for organizing the Basketball Snack shack.
- Merchandise—Ann Thalman’s choice of the Boosters commemorative blanket was a great gift with Gold and Platinum memberships and it was agreed that the item next year should be left as an incentive for those higher levels of membership.
- New Business—Sue Miller reported that next years’ Boosters Meetings will be held on Mondays due to the many sports and academic events scheduled on Tuesdays.
Rick Winter said the MVP blankets from the gymnasium walls that were sent out for repair were completed incorrectly. Since there are the new 2007-08 stats to be added, the blankets were returned to be corrected and updated. Rick said the repair cost of $5000 originally estimated for this fiscal year will be billed to next years’ Boosters budget.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:54p.m.. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, March 18.
Did you know that Marin Catholic is the only high school north of the Golden Gate bridge to offer a
Womens Field Hockey program. Varsity and JV!!
Thank you coach Whitney Hanley for your dedication.
