Dear MC Parents,
SENIOR BABY PHOTOS DUE: Senior parents, if you have not done so already, mail an 8x10 (birth - 4 years of age) photo and a wallet size graduation photo of your son/daughter. As of now only half of the parents have sent in their photos. We have extended the deadline for receiving the photos to Friday, May 16th. Photos can be sent to Michele Ugarte, 22 Creekview Court, Novato, CA 94949. Any questions can be directed to Michele @ 234.6034 or Laura Dito @ 898.0577.
FOOD SERVICE AT THE END OF MAY: The last day that food or beverages will be sold in the "old" cafeteria will be Thursday, May 29, the last day of regularly scheduled classes. Food and beverages will not be sold on the last four days of school when Final Exams are scheduled.
We have asked our food service provider, Epicurean Group, to close down operations early in order to provide us with a few days to relocate and/or dispose of all of the building’s contents. Demolition will begin shortly after Graduation Day. For the few days of Final Exams, a very limited number of non-perishable food and beverage items will be available for sale (cash only) in the Student Bookstore.
For those students who will be continuing at MC, all Café Prepay balances will be brought forward to the 2008-09 school year accounts. For those students who are graduating or transferring out, all balances of $25 or more will be automatically refunded. Checks will be sent to the students’ parents by 7/15/08. Balances of less than $25 for students who are not returning will be refunded within two weeks of the school’s receipt of an emailed request (but no sooner than 7/15/08.) Any questions please contact Michelle Mayfield-Baske at 415-464-3818 or mmbaske@marincatholic.org.

Dear MC Parents,
TO PARENTS OF RETURNING STUDENTS: Our website now has information on the 2008/09 MC school bus service between campus and communities to the north. Many changes are planned for this year when our parking will be limited by our exciting new construction. There will be two morning buses with two different routes so we can decrease commute times and increase ridership. A new stop in Central San Rafael at the Transit Hub at 3rd and Heatherton has been added. There will be two afternoon buses, an "early" bus and a "late" bus, to accommodate students with after school activities. Please take a look at the information on the website and if it looks like this option may work for your family, the order form can be downloaded and printed directly from the website. If you have any questions on the planned bus service, please call Michelle Mayfield-Baske at 464-3818. Click here to visit the Transportation Section now.
THE GIACOMINIS CHALLENGE TO THE SENIORS AND THEIR PARENTS: Dean and Bob Giacomini of West Marin were on campus Wednesday to make a donation to the St. John Neumann Project, Marin Catholic’s endowment fund for tuition assistance. The Giacominis now CHALLENGE the SENIOR CLASS and SENIOR PARENTS to MATCH their gift! Click here to read more about the Giacomini Challenge!

Dear MC Parents,
ATTENTION FRESHMEN, SOPHOMORE AND JUNIOR PARENTS! Mark your calendars for Thursday, June 5th, Graduation Day! After the graduation ceremony, the senior class comes straight to the Safe and Sober Grad Night party. It will be held at the Mt. Tam Racquet Club in Larkspur, right around the corner from MC. After the graduates check in at around 9:30 p.m., they are not allowed to leave for any reason. This is what keeps them safe with us all night until the party ends at 4:30 a.m. We need many volunteers to set up during the daytime on June 5th, and several chaperones for the entire evening. Just name your preferred time, and we will put you to work! It's fun and easy, and working the event will give you a good idea of what your children will be up to that night when it is their turn. Come "pay if forward" for all the Freshman, Sophomore and Junior classes. When it is their grad night, you'll rest easy knowing that your children are celebrating their graduation in a Safe and Sober environment! We would love to see you come help! Please contact Leslie Moreno, Volunteer Chair: lmoreno42@yahoo.com or (h) 897-6412.

Dear MC Parents,
FROSH COMMUNITY DAY: We are looking forward to a great community day with the entire Class of 2011 this Monday, April 21st. The purpose of this day is to build unity within the class and work on supporting each other while participating in an adventure ropes course. The day is a "put up", rather than "put down" day, where we will focus on encouraging each other while tackling cognitive and physical obstacles. The upper elements are all "challenge by choice" and students can determine themselves at what degree they want to participate. Please pack an EXTRA LARGE LUNCH for your son or daughter and a water bottle. We will be boarding the bus promptly at 7:45 am and leaving shortly after. (Not to worry Novato bus riders- we'll wait for you) We will be returning at 6:00 pm. You might want to meet your kids over at St. Sebastain's parking lot because the Case Studies night folks might be filling the MC parking lot. We will be going RAIN OR SHINE, so please dress appropriately in layers. We can't wait to play with the Class of 2011. Questions? Contact Peggy Semling in Campus MInistry at 415-464-3889.
NEED CHRISTIAN SERVICE HOURS? Please help the Boosters move the contents of the storage room under the cafeteria to the upstairs store room. Date is this Friday, April 18th at 1:30. Please meet at the fountain in the courtyard and contact Sue Miller at 883-4242 or sue@michaelmillerinsurance.com to let me know that you will be available.
MCPA LUNCHEON CANCELED: Due to the Magazine Drive holiday on April 28 that was recently scheduled, the MCPA Spring Luncheon has been canceled.

Dear MC Parents,
FRIDAY NIGHT'S MINI-OLYMPICS: Marin Catholic's Mini-Olympics will take place this Friday night in the gym at 7:30 pm. The free rally will consist of a dunk exposition, rhythmic gymnastics, a teacher dance routine, and many, many class competitions. We hope all your children will be there! Questions? Please feel free to email Ms. Maloney at lmaloney@marincatholic.org.
CLARIFICATION ON BOOSTERS STORAGE HELP DATE: The Boosters Storage Help will take place on Friday, April 18 at 1:30 p.m., not this Friday!
HELP THE EARTH BY PURCHASING AN MC GROCERY BAG: The Bookstore is now selling "green" grocery bags. The are not green in color (actually they are MC blue!), but they do help the earth by not wasting paper. Junior Connor Salmon came up with the idea and wrote a letter asking Marin Sanitary to donate the money for the bags. They said "yes" and now we are selling them at cost ($2.00 per bag) in the MC Bookstore. All proceeds go directly to MC's Environmental Club.

Dear MC Parents,
ATTENTION SENIOR PARENTS: Invitations for the Wildcat Island Paradise, this year's Safe and Sober Grad Night, have been mailed. If your senior did not receive one, be sure to have them pick one up at the front desk. We don't want anyone to miss out on the fun! Signed consent forms and payment are due by May 5th. Inside each invitation is a sealed, confidential letter addressed to parents only. This is a surprise for the graduates, so please keep it a secret!
MC GOES GREEN: In an effort to become more environmentally friendly, Marin Catholic has recently installed new waterless urinals in all of the campus bathrooms and has replaced many of the light bulbs around campus with more energy efficient ones. The new urinals save an average of 40,000 gallons of water per urinal per year, and with the addition of the turf on the baseball and football fields, we have reduced the school’s water consumption by approximately 90%. The new light bulbs in the gym use only 10% of the energy that the old heat lamps used. We are also looking into the possibility of adding solar panels to help power the school. We will continue to keep you posted on any future changes the school plans to make.
RECYCLING AND ESCRIP: Mollie Stone’s has partnered with eScrip to place recycling bins in all eight of their stores; collecting cell phones, MP3 players and ink jet cartridges no longer in use. Each store and bin targets a specific school or school district. The Greenbrae store has placed two recycling bins at the exit nearest the produce department, one benefiting Marin Catholic and the other Kent School District. This program accepts a variety of brands and models. For a list of printer toner and cartridges accepted view the list here. Be sure to check the cell phone list in this link as well. The recycled items are sent back to eScrip and the schools receive money based on the individual value of each recycled item. It is so great to have a place to bring these items to recycle, benefiting both the environment and Marin Catholic. For more information, check out the Mollie Stone’s Community at www.molliestones.com/community.

Dear MC Parents,
GOT VOLLEYBALL? Learn more about this exciting spring sport from guest speaker Jeff Rice, MC's men's volleyball coach. All parents are invited to attend the MC Boosters meeting tonight, Tuesday, March 18 at 7pm in the library. Please come and learn what you can do in support of your MC athletics.
OXFAM SOUP DAY: OXFAM day is this Thursday. During Lent, we are called to uphold the three traditional practices of increased PRAYER, FASTING, AND ALMSGIVING that will lead us to a renewed vigor of concentration and action in our lives that will bring us closer to God. On Holy Thursday, the MC community will have a chance to avail themselves of all three of these practices. OXFAM Day allows students and staff to thoughtfully eat a lighter lunch of soup made by our own student and staff volunteers. The soup and bread will be served right after mass at break and will cost $4.00. Please bring CASH for the soup. All proceeds benefit OXFAM, an organizaton that serves those stricken by hunger, disease, global poverty, and social injustice. In support of OXFAM, Cafe Wildcat will be serving only a limited menu (drinks, muffins, nutrition bars) on this day so more people will participate and truly understand the mission of the "Hunger Banquet" (soup). This day helps our students experience the inequalities in our world while raising money to help world hunger. Thank you to Cafe Gratitude for their donations of all organic vegetables, Noah's, Bordenave, United, and Safeway for the bread. If you have any questions please contact Peggy Semling in Campus Ministry (ext. 3889).

This month features some preliminary scheduling information for the '08-'09 school year, as well as info on the College Project for Juniors. Check it out now at http://www.marincatholic.org/index/counseling.
ATTENTION SENIORS: As announced after Friday's assembly, applications for the Michael Basso "Wildcat" Award and Veronica Perotti Memorial Scholarship are available in front of Ms. Meaney's office. Pick one up ASAP, as the deadline is April 4th. Don't delay . . . apply today!
LAST CHANCE FOR TEST TAKERS: Monday, March 10th is the final day to sign up for May's AP Exams. Turn in both your payment and your sign-up slip to Matt Ritchie in the Main Office ASAP. Exams are $84 and checks are to be made out to Marin Catholic.
SOPHOMORE CLASS HELPS THOSE AIMING FOR A NEW FUTURE: Many people in our community are struggling to reenter the work force and get back on their feet in society. This confidence that is needed to re-invent themselves comes from inside, but begins on the outside. The sophomore class is asking that Marin Catholic does their part by donating business attire for the non-profit organization Image for Success. Image for Success provides clothing and accessories to those trying to aim for a new future. We will be collecting ties, dress shoes, suits, blazers, dress pants and skirts, sweaters, dress shirts and any other business attire. Please ask your family and friends if they have any of these items that are in good condition, but do not wear anymore. Please bring them into the school and put them in the designated bins around campus.

HELP NEEDED THIS SATURDAY! Fashion Show volunteers will be stuffing over 5,000 Fashion Show invitations this Saturday, March 1st, at 9 am in the MC Library. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has any questions, they can call me at 472-5305, or email Terri Geck at gecks@lvha.net.
SAVE ON THE SATs and ACTs: Enroll in any full-length SAT or ACT prep program for any May or June SAT/ACT test date and receive a discount on the price of your program that is at least $432 and up to $648! Students or their parents should call 1-800-IVY-WEST to take advantage of this offer.
THE YEARBOOK IS LOOKING FOR A FEW VOLUNTEER PHOTOGRAPHERS: Marin Catholic is using VarsityPix to display action photos of spring sports teams and for use in the yearbook. But we need pictures. And to get the pictures, we need team photographers. We'd like to capture the action for as many of our games as possible this year. Want to help out by becoming a team photographer?
All you need is a passion for your favorite team, a good digital camera, and a bit of practice if you've never shot sports before.
You don't have to shoot every game. You decide what works best for you. Your pictures will be appreciated by your players, parents, and fans regardless of the number of games you photograph.
Photographers share in the profits from picture sales and you can elect to give a part or all of your share to MC.
If you're interested, contact support@VarsityPix.com, or phone 415-816-3806 as soon as possible to sign up.

Dear MC Parents,
REMINDER FOR MOTHER SON DANCE: Reservations are not confirmed unless the check is received at Suzie Fitzpatrick's house, 530 Marin Oaks Novato, 94949. For those groovy enough to attend the 2008 Mother-Son Disco Fever Dinner Dance this February 1st, the dress code is lots of POLYESTER! We hope you will join in the fun of stepping back into those "tacky 80's" and dress DISCO! Mom's, dust off your colorful polyester disco dresses, platform boots and shoes and load up on accessories! As for the boys, you won't recall, but large lapels and polyester shirts were "in the groove" for those Disco Nights! Senior Boys will probably want to wear their White Tuxedos...because you're Seniors and "You Should Be Dancin'...Yeah!"
The Marin Catholic Athletic Boosters Annual Crab Dinner was held Saturday night. A big thank you to co-chairs Andrea Pannes and Kim Kristoff for putting together this very fun event. The Super Bowl Pool results will be posted on the Boosters web page – please look for the Boosters Page under "Support MC."
To all parents who signed up to pay tuition on the TWO PAY PLAN using the semi-annual payment option – The second and final payment for 2007/2008 was due last week. Payments have not yet been received from several families. If you have not already sent your payment, please do so. If you need a copy of your statement or have other questions, please contact Carol Crivello at ccrivello@marincatholic.org or 415-464-3806 or Clare Lindquist at clindquist@marincatholic.org or 415-464-3856.
ASSAULT PREVENTION SEMINARS: Assault Prevention Seminars for Seniors will be held on January 25, 2008 (Senior Boys) and February 22, 2008 (Senior Girls), sponsored by the Doar family. Both days are Fridays with early dismissal at 11:15 am. The seminars will take place in the MC Cafeteria from 11:30am to 1pm, and will be for Seniors only. Students may bring snacks or use their accounts at the MC Café, and athletic coaches will be notified of this date.

Dear MC Parents,
COLLEGE PLANNING NIGHT FOR JUNIORS A GREAT SUCCESS: Last night in the cafeteria, MC's Guidance & College Counselors spoke to a "sell-out" crowd of junior parents and students about college planning and the overall high school picture for a junior. Kudos to the department, and thanks to the parents and students for being so prompt, attentive, and full of questions! Kudos, comments, and suggestions are gladly accepted by Director Michael Costello at mcostello@marincatholic.org.
THE FOREIGNER OPENS TONIGHT! The fall play, The Foreigner, opens tonight! To reserve a front row seat and help the MC arts program at the same time, consider purchasing an " Angel Ticket" for $25. Regular price tickets are also available, adult $10, student $5 , by calling the Wildcat Store, 464-3855. Visit the Arts Cafe before the performances on Friday and Saturday. Enjoy student art, music and desserts. Showtimes are 8:00 pm (Thursday-Saturday) and 2:00 pm (Sunday).
CHRISTMAS CONCERT DATE CHANGE: MC’s annual Christmas Music Concert, presented by music teacher Jim Wells and his students, will take place on December 16 at St. Hilary’s Church in Tiburon. The concert was scheduled on the print calendar for December 9.
FINAL CALL FOR SENIOR YEARBOOK PARENT PAGES: We have very few spots left for parent ads to their seniors in this year's yearbook. The deadline has passed, so it's on a first-come, first served basis. We have now purchased the final pages for the book, so there is no flexibility once the pages are sold. To purchase a spot, click on the "FORMS" link, located at the very bottom of any MC webpage and scroll to the bottom and select Yearbook Parent Ad. That flyer explains all that you need. Please, no phone calls or checks to reserve spots. Only complete orders will be counted.

IMPORTANT PARKING LOT NOTICE: This week several parents have tried to exit the entrance from Sir Francis Drake where all the cars enter our parking lot. This is not okay and is very unsafe. After dropping off your children, please use the exit ramp or drive through St. Sebastian's.
SUPPORT THE TROOPS: The MCPA and the Parent Advisory Board would like to invite you to join us in sending Care Packages to our troops In Iraq and Afghanistan. Sending goodies from home to our women and men in harm’s way is a wonderful way to let them know they’re not forgotten and that you care. We’ll meet Tuesday, November 6 at 7:00 p.m. in the school library to assemble the boxes. One of the recipients will be MC alum Adrienne Payne (pictured), and John and Monica Payne will be there to talk about her experiences in Iraq. If you can'’t make it on the 6th, you can still participate! Please contact Kevin Mott at titancap@msn.com or call him at 415-884-2287 for further details.
DO YOU LIKE TO READ? Are you looking for a few good books? How about an armload of new titles – FREE! Please come to the Marin Catholic Book Exchange on Tuesday, October 30 beginning at 5:00 pm. Come and browse for some good books and stay for the all school book event where English teacher, Mr. Tom Lippi, will lead a book discussion of A Separate Peace at 7:00 PM. Both events are free - and, while there may be no such thing as a free lunch, there are free books at this exchange. We will be collecting books for the Book Exchange from families who have books they no longer need, but you don’t need to bring a book to take some books home. This is a great opportunity to go through your bookcases and get rid of your old books to make room for the new books you’ll find at the exchange. You can drop off books at the Marin Catholic Library or look for collection boxes in the foyer of the administration building. We look forward to seeing you on October 30. Questions? Please contact Judi Cooper at 479-8708.

Dear MC Parents,
THANK YOU, DOUG WALKER! Thank you to Doug Walker (parent of Merritt Walker - MC Class of 2010) for creating a beautiful promotion video for our Admissions Office. Click here to view the video! (Note: This video works with Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers, but not with Safari). The video is also located for viewing under the Admissions menu on our website.
SENIOR COMMUNITY DAY: Next Friday, October 26 is Senior Community Day here on campus. The Class of 2008 will kick off the day IMMEDIATELY after the final bell with a BBQ in the courtyard and then head down to the field for the Olympic Events! Rain or Shine, the day will take place. Role will be taken at 2:30 pm at the close of events. All students are required to attend. We can't wait to play with the Class of '08!
CALLING ALL BAKERS AND PLATTER MAKERS: We need your help to make our Open House a great success on Sunday, October 28. Please bring cookies, brownies or cheese and crackers on a disposable plate or basket you don’t want returned. All items need to be delivered to the gym at 11am on Sunday, October 28. Please email Meg Heimbrodt, megheimbrodt@yahoo.com to let her know what you will be bringing so we can appropriately supplement. Thanks for your support of this important event!
BUS SCHEDULE CHANGE: There will be a change in the AM departure time for the school bus at the first stop. The bus will be leaving the San Marin stop five minutes earlier. Please see the Transportation section of our website for details or call the Business Office at 464-3818 with any questions.
SOPHOMORE ACADEMIC PLANNING NIGHT A GREAT SUCCESS: Last night in the cafeteria, MC's Guidance & College Counselors spoke to a "sell-out" crowd of sophomore parents and students about academic planning with college in the future, the overall high school picture for a sophomore, and the "developmental" sophomore. Kudos to the department, and thanks to the parents and students for being so prompt, attentive, and full of questions! Kudos, comments, and suggestions are gladly accepted by Director Michael Costello at mcostello@marincatholic.org.
P.S. The few who missed this night really missed out on some good info in the planning process. Please try to mark your calendars in advance, as these nights always occur each fall. All three of these night programs are meant for both parent(s) and students and are built upon one another in sequential fashion. College admissions change each year. . . and so do these presentations!
Junior Parents: Stay tuned to MC Notes (students through Family Connection email) for info on the upcoming College Planning Night for Juniors in November.

Dear MC Parents,
ATTENTION SOPHOMORE PARENTS: In the past few years our Sophomore Parent Gatherings (Thursday, October 18 from 7:30- 9:00 am) have proved very successful. Mass is in the chapel at 7:30 am and then moves on to a "Chat Session" held in the Principal's Dining room (down the hall from the chapel). The purpose of these gatherings is to give parents a chance to meet informally with administrators for any questions, concerns or compliments. Coffee, juice and pastry will be served. We will look forward to seeing and chatting with you.

Dear MC Parents,
ALCOHOL AND STUDENT-CENTERED EVENTS: It is the policy of Marin Catholic High School to forbid the use (serving, purchase, consumption) of alcoholic beverages at any school-sponsored student-centered activity or activity attended by students as guests whether on or off-campus. Such events include both the Father-Daughter and Mother-Son Dinner Dances, all athletic banquets, and the afternoon performance of the Fashion Show. Parents and other adults present at such events are expected to model the ability and willingness to participate in such events without the use of or need for alcoholic beverages. Both Fr. Daly and Mr. Ritchie would appreciate it if all parents would abide by this policy especially at the upcoming Father-Daughter event. Any bars at the Embassy Suites should be considered off-limits for the evening. Thank you.
INFO FOR FROSH PARENTS ON PALECEK SALE: Each year MC hosts a home furnishings sale to benefit the seniors' Safe and Sober Grad Night party. This huge container sale contains rattan chairs, tables, lamps, bar stools, baskets and much more!

Dear MC Parents,
SECOND QUARTER MORNING BUS NOW HALF FULL: The second quarter begins Wednesday, October 17. If you have only purchased a first quarter bus pass for round-trip, morning or afternoon, now is the time to buy your new pass. You may also want to purchase passes for the third and fourth quarter as several families have already done. The response to the bus service this school year has been quite enthusiastic, so please plan ahead. Remember that quarterly pass holders have guaranteed seating. If bus passes are sold for full-capacity seating of 56 students, daily tickets will once again not be accepted for morning trips. The Bus Pass Order Form is on the transportation page of the MC website or by clicking http://marincatholic.org/index/transportation.

FATHER-DAUGHTER DINNER DANCE UPDATE: It's time to get your checks in for the Father-Daughter Dinner Dance. Mail your payment by October 5th to Sue Silveira at 21 Calumet Drive, San Anselmo, CA 94960. The dinner dance is $50/person or $100/couple. Include with your RSVP name(s) and grade(s) of student and father (mature guest). Also, if you click on the MCPA Homepage, you can find the Father-Daughter Dinner Dance Photo form to download and take to the dance completed with photo order check. Seating is limited. Dress is semi formal.
SENIOR PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: The Palecek Furniture Sale needs about 20 more volunteers for the event, and given the event directly supports Safe and Sober Grad Night, we are looking for senior parents first! On Friday, October 12, we need volunteers at 3:00 pm to arrange the items from the container in the gym. On Saturday, October 13 (the day of the sale!), the job is the same, but shifts are from 8:30 - 11:00 am and 11:00 am - 2:00 pm. We also need a clean up crew after 2:00 pm. Also, we are looking for someone with a truck on Saturday in case we need to deliver locally to a MC family! Those interested should contact Laura Hislop at lhislop@aol.com. And don't forget to mark your calendars and come to this huge container sale of designer home accessories and new furniture on Saturday, October 13 from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm!
