Marin Catholic High School offers a comprehensive Summer School Program that runs for five weeks starting June 17 through July 21. In addition to remedial classes offered on an "as-needed" basis, the Summer School curriculum offers preparation classes, week-long courses, specialty classes, and classes for parents.

ENRICHMENT COURSES
Tom Lippi's Book Club for Parents and Friends (week-long course)

This has always been the most popular and asked about class in the Marin Catholic Summer Program. This four-night course allows parents, friends and interested students a chance to be taught by Marin Catholic's Master English Teacher Tom Lippi. This year’s selection is Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri, the highly regarded author of Interpreter of Maladies and The Namesake. Participants will read the book beforehand and have an assignment prior to the first night of class. At Back-to-School Night, parents who have children in Mr. Lippi's class always leave wishing they could take a course from him. Well here's your chance. For incoming parents, there is no better introduction to Marin Catholic. As always, space is limited.
Study Skills & Writing for Academic Success (full five week course)
8:00 am - 10:30 am • June 17 - July 21
Open to entering 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th graders
Cost: $400
This class will prepare junior high students to succeed in high school. Our focus will be on active reading skills, critical thinking strategies, and writing for academic success as we read, discuss, and analyze William Golding's wonderful novel, Lord of the Flies. Major emphasis will be placed on the writing process; students will practice a variety of writing tasks, including journaling, paragraph perfection, and essay composition. We will also cover time management and organizational skills.
"Mere Christianity" and God's Existence (week-long course)
7:00 - 9:00 pm • August 10 - August 13
Open to anyone interested
Cost: $150
This week-long course, taught by Marin Catholic teacher Ryan Mayer, will examine C.S. Lewis's "Mere Christianity," a core text used in Theology classes worldwide, as well as examining God's Existence in response to the "New Atheists." Participants will read the text beforehand and have assigned articles prior to meeting each night. Be prepared for lively and thoughtful discussion. Space is limited.
PREP CLASSES
Math 9 Prep (for incoming freshman)8:00 - 10:30 am or 10:45 - 1:15 pm • June 17 - July 21
Open to entering freshmen recommended or required to take this course.
Cost: $400
This course is open to incoming freshmen who are required or recommended to enroll in Marin Catholic's summer school math program. Math 9 Prep is designed to help prepare students for enrollment in Algebra. This course emphasizes arithmetic and fundamental pre-algebra skills.
English 9 Prep (for incoming freshman)
8:00 - 10:30 am or 10:45 - 1:15 pm • June 17 - July 21
Open to entering freshmen recommended or required to take this course.
Cost: $400
This course is open to incoming freshmen who are recommended or required to enroll in Marin Catholic summer school English program. English 9 Prep is designed to help prepare the students for the demands of a college prep high school English course. The course will emphasize spelling, vocabulary, grammar, writing skills and reading comprehension.
CREDIT COURSES
English 9 / English 10 (Must have a minimum of six students to offer this course)
10:45 - 1:15 pm • June 17 - July 21
Open to entering students who are interested in making up a D or F grade in English 9 or English 10.

The goal English 9 is to help students become skilled readers and effective writers. The course emphasizes the study of great writing from classical to contemporary times. Students learn the critical skills necessary to understand and interpret works of literature of various types: long and short fiction, the novel, nonfiction, poetry, drama, the epic. The structure of English grammar and composition and extensive vocabulary study are fundamental aspects of the course. The writing program focuses on developing responses to literature and includes practice in autobiographical, narrative, descriptive and expository writing.
The goal of English 10 is to investigate the various types of literature (poetry, prose, drama) and to explore how they address certain timeless themes in literature: the journey of the hero, coming of age, war and peace, love, etc. The structure of English grammar and composition and extensive vocabulary study remain essential aspects of the course, with increased emphasis on grammar for writing and the development of a more sophisticated and varied style. Expository writing receives greater emphasis, the focus for assignments moving generally from response to analysis. Practice continues in the development of skills in autobiographical, narrative, and expressive writing.
Computer Literacy (full five-week credit course)
10:45 am - 1:15 pm • June 17 - July 21
Cost: $400
This course provides an introduction to the most commonly used applications on a computer. Students will learn the fundamentals of word processing, mail merge, spreadsheets, PowerPoint and databases. Applications used will be MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Appleworks. This one-semester credit course satisfies the Marin Catholic Computer Literacy requirement.
Health and Fitness (full five-week credit course)
8:00 - 10:30 am • June 17 - July 21
Cost: $400
This course features an extensive program of health and physical activities, exposing the student to a variety of health issues, group and individual sports. Students are also expected to pass an independent study First Aid Course. This one-semester credit course satisfies the Marin Catholic Physical Education requirement.
