Bus Service

Marin Catholic has contracted with CYO Transportation to provide bus service between northern Marin and Marin Catholic for each day that school is in session for the 2011/12 school year.

There are three bus stops along the Highway 101 corridor near the following exits:

San Marin/Atherton
Alameda del Prado

Freitas Parkway

The locations and times for the bus stops are described in the schedule below.  Route times and/or stop locations may change slightly after the school year begins based on actual travel times, traffic patterns, and freeway construction projects.  Students will receive at least three days advance notice of any planned refinements to the bus operations during the school year. Families of students wishing to ride the bus should complete a 2011/12 Bus Pass Order Form.  Click here to download the 2011/12 Bus Pass Order Form. The bus driver will check all students boarding the bus against his list of passes issued.  If a bus pass has been issued, but because of timing or another reason the name is not yet on the driver’s list, the student WILL be allowed on the bus if he or she shows identification.  The understanding will be that the student has in fact purchased a pass for the applicable semester and time of day.  Otherwise the student should not board the bus.  This exception is made to avoid the possibility of stranding any of our students when they need to get to school on time or home safely at night. Any student who claims to have a pass when he/she does not (or thinks his/her parents have purchased a pass when they have not) will be fined $25 for riding the bus without a pass, and his/her parents will be notified in writing that no more exceptions will be made.  If the student and his/her parents choose to buy a semester or full year pass then the fine will be waived.  If a student rides the bus a second time without a pass, he/she will be charged for a semester bus pass for use for the remainder of the semester.

Single trip tickets are now available for students who may wish to ride the bus on occasion. One way tickets for an AM or PM ride are $10 each and and can be purchased at the front office. Tickets may be purchased the day of the ride or the day before the ride. Tickets are issued to specific students and are not transferable or refundable.

CYO TRANSPORTATION

CYO Transportation provides the daily bus service under an annual contract with Marin Catholic.  Marin Catholic administers and subsidizes the service and sells all passes. CYO may be contacted for Lost and Found, route information, and other general information.

The bus driver will pick up and drop off students ONLY at the three scheduled bus stops and the school.

Parents and students should not try to “flag down” the bus between stops or request drop offs anywhere other than the designated stops. Since this is a safety issue, there will be no exceptions.  Cars should never park or stop in, or immediately adjacent to, the bus stop.  The Marin Catholic bus needs room to maneuver – pull in, park close to the curb, and pull out into traffic – safely and without delay.  Also, these stops are often busy Golden Gate Transit stops and use by Marin Catholic could be jeopardized if MC parents or students cause delays for them.  Drivers who are dropping off or picking up students should park on the same side of the street as the bus stop for safety reasons.  This is particularly important for morning drop offs when students may be in a hurry.   Parents or students, if unfamiliar with the location of a specific bus stop, may wish to check access and parking in advance.  Bus stops are in areas that may have heavy commute hour traffic. The bus driver cannot wait for late arrivals.  All students should be at the bus stop a few minutes BEFORE the departure times so they can be safely seated prior to the departure time and to allow for possible differences in time pieces.  Students running late in the morning should consider trying to catch the bus at the next stop on the route. CYO Transportation uses the same pick up locations for other schools in addition to Marin Catholic.  If there is any doubt as to the bus’ destination, students should check with the bus driver.
