What are ESLR's
EXPECTED STUDENT LEARNING REQUIREMENTS (ESLR's)
MARIN CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL
MARIN CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL
Consistent with our mission as a Catholic, college preparatory high school, we are committed to the education of the whole person. Our program strives to address all facets of our students' experience: academic, social, personal, and spiritual. We seek to provide our students with the tools and experiences needed to become informed and compassionate persons who are able to effect change in the world.
The faculty and administration four years ago developed the following sets of expectations of a Marin Catholic student. They will continue to be foundational to curriculum and program development at every level and constitute the starting point for every self-study that we undertake through our current period of accreditation (June, 2004).
Academic Expectations of a Marin Catholic Student
Students are best served by an academic program that is challenging and varied. It serves as a base from which our students are expected to develop the attributes of an educated person and lifelong learner capable of:
- Demonstrating effective oral, written, and listening communication skills.
- Accessing, using and integrating a variety of strategies for inquiry, research critical analysis and problem solving both independently and in groups.
- Utilizing the qualities of a self-directed learner – responsibility, setting priorities and achievable goals, self-monitoring and self-evaluation.
- Developing appreciation for and competency in a wide spectrum of academic disciplines and correlating and integrating knowledge and experiences from those disciplines.
- Thinking critically about their (student's) experiences.
Social Expectations of a Marin Catholic Student
Through their experiences in the classroom and as active members of the school and broader communities, our students should exemplify the qualities of socially responsible young men and women. The qualities include:
- Participating in school and community service programs.
- Recognizing and understanding the interconnectedness of people and their environments both locally and globally.
- Responding sensitively and compassionately to the needs of the poor and disadvantaged.
- Participating in groups as effective, collaborative members.
Personal Expectations of a Marin Catholic Student
We work to develop responsible young men and women of integrity with respect to themselves, others and the community, capable of:
- Making informed and intelligent choices and understanding the consequences of those choices.
- Developing confidence and self-respect by identifying and applying personal talents, interests and abilities.
- Developing an appreciation and respect for differences between people and cultures.
Spiritual Expectations of a Marin Catholic Student
Through their experiences in the classroom, the Campus Ministry program, and extra-curricular activities, our students should develop an understanding of Gospel values, Church tradition, and spirituality, which recognizes the uniqueness and dignity of all individuals. This understanding will assist them in:
- Examining critically the parallels and conflicts between our modern culture and the teaching of Jesus and the Church.
- Exploring various methods of prayer and how to initiate prayer as a member of a community.
- Developing both a personal and communal spirituality.
