Every spring break, a group from our close-knit drama department takes a memorable road trip up to the renowned Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon. On this trip, students see 5 or 6 shows in the festival season. 2 of these are Shakespeare, and the rest are from modern or contemporary theatre, including world premieres. These professional performances are dazzling to watch in every last detail. The sets and costumes are always remarkable, but it is the ability of the festival actors to totally captivate the audience that leaves the most lasting impression. Even for those students who have been bored by Shakespeare in the past, this trip changes everything you think you know about theatre; the festival magic delivers an experience that cannot help but leave you enrapt. This trip is great for any student with a growing interest in theatrical performance or interest in technical theater or design for the stage. In addition to the shows, we often include goodies such as backstage tours, prologues, and acting workshops.
