MC's Rotation Schedule

Marin Catholic adopted a new schedule in the fall of 2018 which offered greater opportunities for in-depth learning, balance, and a slower daily pace.

After the first year of the new schedule, feedback was provided in both a survey and in conversation. After reviewing the survey results and various feedback from all three groups- faculty/staff, parents, and students- we have decided to make a few adjustments to the schedule for the 2019-2020 school year.

First, there will always be a 10 minute passing period between two blocks. While this occurred this past year on PM CATS days, it did not occur on AM CATS days. This change will ensure consistency. Whenever there are blocks back to back, there will be a 10 minute passing period.

Second, CATS will no longer be scheduled on Wednesdays. Classes on Wednesdays will start at 8:45am. The period from 8:00am to 8:45am will be designated for Frosh Advisory and Faculty Collaboration. Students will still have use of the JPII and the Library for studying and homework, but teachers will not be available to meet with students on Wednesday mornings.

Finally, the CATS designation for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday will change slightly. Please see below for details. Click here to view the entire schedule for the year. All schedule documents can be found on the "Calendar & Schedule" button in your MC Connect Resources.

    Monday - PM Club CATS
    Tuesday - AM Academic CATS
Wednesday - NO CATS: Frosh Advisory/Faculty Collaboration (see above)
    Thursday - PM Academic CATS
Friday - PM Student Life CATS, Midday Student Life CATS or AM Academic CATS. CATS time and designation will
depend on the schedule. Please see MC Connect for specific CATS designation.

We appreciate your feedback and look forward to another great year.

FEATURES OF MC'S SCHEDULE

  • Four class meetings per day (instead of the current six) allows students to prepare for fewer classes each day.
  • Instructional time is lengthened to 75 minutes per class to create opportunities for a variety of teaching strategies and in-depth learning.
  • Slower pace due to the reduced number of transitions students experience in a day.
  • Built-in advisory periods provide dedicated time for academic study, support and student life activities (campus ministry, clubs, class meetings).
  • Break and lunch are true “breaks” without the necessity of packing in meetings and activities.
  • An optional later start time several days each week (an opportunity for more sleep)
  • Flexibility to move CATS period to accommodate student/program needs.
