Multi-Cultural Club Attends Latin@ Summit

Members of the MC Multi-Cultural Club attended the 5th Annual Latin@ Summit with students and allies from Jesuit High Schools across the nation, San Francisco Archdiocese High Schools, and Bay Area POCIS Independent High Schools to explore identity, share common and unique experiences, and participate in a variety of interactive workshops, hands-on presentations and social activities. The focus was on promoting effective modes of dialogue, youth leadership, critical thinking and activism, with particular emphasis on challenging negative Latino stereotypes in media.

Featured presenters:
  • Rita Moreno remains one of a few performers ever to win all four major artistic awards: the Oscar, the Emmy, the Grammy and the Tony.
  • Favianna Rodriguez, hailed as "visionary" and "ubiquitous," is a renowned artist, activist, and scholar. Her vibrant and acclaimed posters deal with issues such as war, immigration, globalization, and social movements.
  • Michael Benitez, Jr, a national social justice educator, activist-scholar and author of various books and articles. Benitez has served higher education in different capacities within academic, diversity & inclusion work in higher education at multiple institutions including: Penn State University, Dickinson College, Lafayette College, Iowa State University, Grinnell College and the University of Puget Sound.
