MC places 14 of 31 Division 2 teams at the East Garrison Race Course
The Marin Catholic Mountain Bike Team competed in their first race of the NorCal Mountain Bike season on March 1st. MC placed 14th out of 31 Division 2 teams at the East Garrison Race Course, on the sandy soil of the oak-studded rolling hills of Fort Ord in Seaside. With only 6 riders to start the season (two are out injured), it was a great start. The day began with the girls races. Freshman Siena McGibben placed 8th, and a top ten finish in her first race speaks well of her promise for the season. Freshman Dawson Gordon also had a great race, placing tenth in his division. This great show for our two freshmen speaks well for the team’s future. Our sophomore boys also did well, especially in their first race in a very large field. Nick Abell placed 29th and Evan Sabadell placed 47th. And, in the last race of the day, MC’s two JV riders also finished strong in the largest field of the day: Drew Nash finished 14th, and Morgan Schmitz finished 21st. Coaching staff David Gooder, Mike Yoham, and Erik Schmitz are proud of the team’s accomplishments. In the words of MC MtB Coach Beau Gaston, “it’s going to be an awesome season".
