MC vs. Redwood/TL Recap
3/17/16:  MC vs Redwood and TL

Last Thursday, the Cats headed to Redwood to compete in a tri-meet.  Terra Linda was the third team to round out the competition.  The weather was great and MC came out in full force.

The boys' team improved to 4-0 on the season, which is the first time that has happened in a long time!  MC beat Redwood 77-58 and defeated TL 92-42.  The Cats were once again led by junior Hunter Juarez who remained undefeated on the season winning the 4x100 relay (Glasser, Margulis, Juarez, Peterson), the 100 meters and the 200 meters once again.  In the 200 meters, the Cats came in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, with Darius Peterson getting 2nd and Max Glasser coming in 3rd place.  It was a great race and it showed me that we have the three fastest boys in Marin County!  Max came back to also win the 400 meters in pretty dominating fashion.  Sophomore Peter Brown got 3rd place in the 400 meters, just a few seconds behind Glasser.  In the 800 meters, Nick Doerschlag was 3rd place, which is an amazing feat since Redwood usually dominates all distance events.  Freshman Andrew Thompson came in only two seconds behind Doerschlag and pr'd in a time of 2:11!  Spencer Petras came off the injured list to win the shot put and place 2nd in the discus in his first ever time in the event.  Petras went above and beyond on Thursday!  Marcus Narodny won the pole vault and the triple jump!  Andrew Colletti placed 2nd in the 300 hurdles and was only a second behind the best hurdler in the county!  It was quite an improvement for Andrew.  Liam Oprendek won the high jump.  In the last event on the track, our 4x400 relay team (Nick Doerschlag, Peter Kent, Andrew Thompson, Peter Brown), consisting of three distance runners and a sprinter, lost by only a second.  They did improve their time from the week prior by over nine seconds!  This is just huge!  On the JV side, Tyler Pendleton won the discus and the shot put.  Ian Domingo won the long jump!  Ricky Miramontes won the 300 hurdles and is really looking like he may be a dominant hurdler in the future.

On the girls' side, they beat TL 77-38 and lost to Redwood 101-31.  For the 2nd straight meet, the girls were down a couple of their best runners.  Caroline Brockman was out sick and Julia Redman was out of the country.  The girls still had a great day!  They started it off by winning the 4x100 relay in dramatic fashion by a tenth of a second!  This team was comprised of Tiana Anderson, Payton Burger, Tara Henry and Grace Kripal.  Bailey Ash won the pole vault in 9'6"!  Alex Goldstein placed third in her first 3200 meters in an awesome time of 13:14!  Tiana Anderson was 2nd in the 100 meters.  Ashley Bell placed 2nd in the high jump and was 3rd in the triple jump.  Veronica Boyce was 4th in the 1600 meters, but won the race against TL!  She also won the 800 meters against TL!  That is 10 points for the team!  Elaine Shaw nabbed 10 points against TL by winning the discus and the shot put.  The girls will continue to get stronger throughout the season as we get back more runners from illness.  We are very excited about the progress so far.

Coach's thoughts:

I couldn't be prouder of the MC track team!  They ran their hearts out and competed on a level that I haven't seen in awhile!  Both the girls' and boys' track teams are improved over last season and I can't wait to see how the season unfolds.  We have several athletes headed to the Stanford Invitational next weekend in Palo Alto as well.  We are halfway through the season and trending upwards towards the MCAL championships in mid-May!  Go Cats!
