Marin County Supervisor Susan Adams Speaks to Seniors
Outgoing Marin County Supervisor Susan Adams spent over two hours on campus on Wednesday, September 24, sharing her experiences with a quarter of the senior class.
A mother of four, a registered nurse, a PhD in nursing and a supervisor for 12 years, Ms. Adams' conversation was informative, inspirational and, at times, quite frank. Dedicated to building "Healthy Planet, Healthy People" Ms. Adams explained that her most significant accomplishment was the creation of Marin's first Health and Wellness Campus bringing universal health care to every Marin resident. Students were amazed that Ms. Adams has served in various administrative roles where she has had meetings with President Obama, US Senators Boxer and Feinstein and Governor Jerry Brown. Ms. Adams' strongest appeal to the students was for them to be active, engaged and informed citizens. Using her own career as motivation, Ms. Adams said that when she ran for office she never dreamed that she'd be elected, she just wanted to make a difference in the campaign. She told the students that it's not where you go, it's what you do. "Do something with your life that makes a difference," she advised them. In light of this, Ms. Adams challenged students to sit on the San Rafael Youth Commission or the Youth Court, both student-based groups who are actively involved in the local political and judicial issues. Her message to the students was consistent: "Do something to make a difference, leave the world a better place than when you found it."
