Congratulations to our #1's, Nicholas Kwok '12 & Jared Goff '13
What surprised everyone at graduation in 2012 was not that Nicholas Kwok '12 was valedictorian. Almost everyone knew that was going to happen by the end of sophomore year. It was the fact that the usually quiet and focused Nicholas had an incredible sense of humor and booming laugh as he won over the crowd with one of the finest written valedictorian speeches to date. Nicholas headed off to MIT where for the first time in his life he would largely be among peers who were at his intellectual level. But it shocked no one on this Nicholas quickly brought home the Lockheed Martin Prize for MIT's Outstanding Student in Mechanical and Systems Engineering. He followed that with winning MIT's Autonomous Robotic Cart Competition, while still pursuing his gift for music as MIT's Emerson Scholar in Piano. After finishing at the 100th percentile on his MCAT exam, he now heads to Harvard Medical School where we know he will continue to shine. God bless you, Nicholas.
Jared Goff '13 was destined for success. As a young boy, he heard about the stories of his dad, Jerry, as his professional career as a baseball player. When Jared joined Marin Catholic, he was not sure if he would pursue baseball, football or basketball beyond high school. As the years went on, it became apparent that football would be his calling, and off to UC Berkeley he went. Jared became the first "true freshman" in Cal history to start as quarterback and spent three years shattering football records. Sensing the right timing, Jared decided to leave Cal early and declare for the NFL Draft, where on Thursday, April 28 he became the first pick going to the Los Angeles Rams. At Marin Catholic, we witnessed Jared's character, leadership and humble servanthood, and know that these characteristics set him up to shine at the highest level. Jared, we will always be your home and we will always have your back. Enjoy.
