NorCal Race 4 “Granite Bay Grinder” (Saturday, April 14, 2018)
Weekend weather on the north shore of Folsom Lake was warm and sunny, a beautiful day for high school Mountain Bike racing, not at all like last year’s hailstorm weather. As always, however, it was all made possible by so many coaches, parents, and volunteers. Thank you all!
The morning started like it always does with the girls races. Sophomore Katie Shearin reached a new high, earning second place (now 3d overall), and Lauren Mullen also got a personal best, in 6th place (just missing that podium!), and is now 7th overall. Clare Abele came in 11th, just missing the top 10! Way to go, sophomore girls! Freshman Angelica Valerio also worked hard and left her tracks on this 6.5 mile loop trail. Good job to all our female Wildcats!
Next came the boys races. Sophomore Dillon Solway rode hard to finish 12th, and is now 7th overall. Nate Wilson chased him through all three laps to take 22nd, so both finished in the top half of this large and fast field. Freshman Ryan Kelly also had a good race and finished 26th, which is in the top half of this even larger field.
Even with injured riders, MC MtB ended the day in the top ten, earning 10th place. One rider started but did not finish, two of our team-members took the drive to be with the team even though they are still recovering from injury, and one rider could not race due to a medical issue. Marin Catholic wildcats are now 9th overall in the NorCal Mountain Bike season after four races. We look forward to the NorCal finals in three weeks, to working hard between now and then, and to healing all injuries. Go Cats!
