Marine Science Students Dissect & Study the Squid

The Marine Science classes just finished a unit on marine molluscs.  As part of this unit, they took part in a lab which looked closer at one of the world's favorite molluscs, the squid.

This lab introduced students to dissection. Through squid dissection, students examined some of the unique features which have allowed squid to adapt and thrive in California waters and throughout the world.  This beginning dissection lesson allowed students to identify internal and external anatomy of the squid and the various functions of its organs. Students also learned how to properly clean and prepare the squid for consumption.  The lab ended with a calamari cookoff!
