Race 2 Report

Fun at Granite Bay on Pi day.
A warm and sunny Pi-day (3.14) at Granite Bay, on the edge of Folsom Lake, was the venue for the NorCal Mountain Bike League’s second season. Marin Catholic had four racers competing (Special Olympics coaching obligations, SAT’s, and injuries kept other MC riders away from the race this busy weekend). Each of the four stepped up and rode well, resulting in the team placing 17th out of the 33 Division 2 Teams for the day, and we are now ranked 16th for the season. Freshman Siena McGibben started our day and placed in the top 10, finishing 8th in a field of 23 riders. She is now ranked 6th after two races. In the boy’s races, our other freshman, Dawson Gordon, finished his race 17th out of a field of 49 riders, and is now ranked 12th. Evan Sabadell also completed a successful race. Morgan Schmitz closed the day, finishing 16th in a field of 66, and is now ranked 14th in his division. Each of these four riders have been putting in effort, both in training and in teamwork, and it showed on the race course and in the pit zone. Thanks to the coaches (Beau Gaston, Mike Yoham, and Erik Schmitz, and a surprise visit from former MC MtB coach Dylan Renn) and the parents for an enjoyable and rewarding weekend of racing, riding, and recreating. Coach Yoham brought yummy home-made carrot cake to celebrate.
