NCS Championship!

Men's Track earns it's first NCS Championship!
It was a banner day for MC yesterday with the boys' team winning their first ever NCS title in Track!  The results were up in the air throughout the day as the meet officials kept printing results with the wrong team scores.  Earlier in the meet they had Santa Rosa with 62.5 points, but they only ended up with 52.5 at the end of the meet.  It was quite confusing.  Coach David pulled up the results online and it had us in first through 16 events.  I didn't want to fully believe it until they handed us the pennant.  When I walked over to the coaches meeting after the meet, I quickly found out we had won when every other head coach walked up to me to shake my hand.  It was a pretty amazing experience and I am so proud of our boys.  They have fought all year long.  We knew we would be in the running yesterday, but to actually have done it is so surreal.  They gave us a great plaque as well as the first place pennant.  Apparently, we even get an NCS blanket that they display in the gym!  I have attached a photo of the plaque and pennant.

On the boys' side:  The day started with our undefeated 4x100 relay team (Glasser, Margulis, Juarez, Peterson) grabbing another victory by the slimmest of margins.  They are moving on to MOC next week at UC Berkeley! Max Glasser continued his dominance of the 400 meters by winning in 49.54, just edging out Maria Carrillo. Peter Brown placed 9th and dropped his PR to 52.37, missing MOC by only .38! In the 100 meters, Hunter was 2nd and Darius was .01 behind in 3rd. Sophomore Anthony Marino was 12th out of 24 in the 100 meters! He was .27 off of advancing to MOC. In the 200 meters, we had three in the top six, with Glasser going for 2nd place, Juarez in 4th and Peterson in 6th.  All of them are moving on to MOC!  Andrew Colletti placed 16th in the 300 hurdles and came back to run the opening leg of the 4x400 relay (Colletti, Doerschlag, Thompson, Brown).  In the shot put, sophomore Spencer Petras placed 12th out of 22 and was the top sophomore at NCS!  In the pole vault, Marcus set a huge PR at the right time by jumping 13'0 and winning the PV!  Jack Rodriques placed 4th to give us 14 points in the PV!  Darius was 16th in the LJ and Zack was 17th in the TJ.

On the girls' side:  Our MVP, Caroline Brockman ran well in the 400 meters in a stiff wind to place 10th, missing MOC by only 1.3 seconds!  Our girls' 4x100 team (Tiana, Caroline, Grace & Julia) had some bad luck though when they had a slip up on the last handoff.  They still persevered and got the baton across the finish line.  I love that kind of resiliency! The 4x400 (Farney, Henry, Redman, Brockman, Burger) team placed 11th overall and missed moving on to MOC by less than three seconds.  Bailey Ash had a great day jumping 10'3" in the pole vault to place 3rd and is moving on to MOC.  For the second straight season, she will be our only female representative at the MOC.  Congratulations Bailey!

In the end, all of our NCS athletes gave their best yesterday and represented MC to the fullest!  All of the coaches are so proud of you guys and gals and even if you aren't moving on to MOC, you have had an amazing season!  Thank you for everything!
