Juniors Serve at St. Anthony's

Throughout each academic year, the junior theology classes each spend a day in service as they encounter Christ in the poor in San Francisco. They serve at the St. Anthony's Foundation in San Francisco by cooking and making meals in the dining Hall, delivering food to shut ins, visiting with the elderly in the Tenderloin, and helping organize items in the clothing program. Sister Teresa Benedicta has gone with four of her junior theology classes this year, along with members of our faculty and staff.

Over conversations with the homeless, eating lunch with someone who couldn't afford a meal, or playing a game with the elderly, our students learn that Christ is present in each person despite their condition. The students realize the power of a smile and a helping hand.  The students also learn that the word poverty describes the physical condition that the people live in, but it does not make that person any less deserving of love and joy.  Many of the people they serve were on a path to success and ambition but somewhere along the line struggles and addictions brought them to St. Anthony's.

St. Anthony's is an amazing program that does meal service 365 days a year.  They also have an addiction recovery center, a free clothing program, and contribute to underprivileged individuals and families in a multitude of ways.
