Marine Science Film Festival Finalists

Each semester in Mr. Ward's marine science class, students complete hands-on semester projects about any marine topic of their choice. Although there is a research component to this project, actually getting outside and getting your feet "wet" is the focus.
Each semester in Mr. Ward's marine science class, students complete hands-on semester projects about any marine topic of their choice. Although there is a research component to this project, actually getting outside and getting your feet "wet" is the focus. In addition to a written paper, students are required to make a 5 minute video summarizing what they did. Mr. Ward strongly encouraged the students to enter their videos into the Student Film Competition for the San Francisco International Ocean Film Festival.

This year the festival received 98 films, from 4 countries and 5 states from the United States. Out of the 98 films, 15 finalists were selected. Two Marine Science students, Leyla Spositto and Ryan Crivello, made it!

On March 12th, their films, along with the other 13 finalists from the middle and high school categories, will be screened at the festival. All of the top finalists will be posted on the Film Festival website after the festival. The top three winners will be announced on stage.

Leyla's film, The Secrets of the Sea, (about tide pools) can be seen HERE.

Ryan's film, The Art of Surfboard Shaping, can be seen HERE.

Nick Eberhard's film on sailing can be seen HERE.
