Every year at Marin Catholic, the English Department invites all students to participate in our Meave Poetry Contest. This year’s prompt celebrates the fact that we were made and redeemed by a God who loves to have mercy on us and forgive us, and that He has shared this capacity for mercy and forgiveness with us.
The poem you compose should be an original piece of writing focused on an occasion of mercy and/or forgiveness. Mercy could be described as feeling another’s suffering as one’s own and then doing something to alleviate it. Forgiveness is not brushing away or forgetting a wrong, but releasing someone from the obligation of paying or suffering for what they have done wrong. Mercy and forgiveness can be blessings to the person who receives them, but also, and often moreso, to the person who gives them.
Contest winners are celebrated at a poetry reception to be held in April and attended by our benefactor, Mr. Meave, along with his family, MC students, parents, teachers, and administrators. Student winners will also receive a generous check from the Meave family.
