Introducing MC's Newest Faculty & Staff Members

We are grateful to the eight new employees who have joined our community as faculty and staff.

Izzy Anderson - English

Isabelle (Izzy) grew up in Portland, OR. Her love of “good reading weather” led her to go to college at University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA, where she majored in English and Chemistry. While there, her work as a writing tutor and campus ministry leader developed her love of reading and learning in community, prompting her to join the Jesuit Volunteer Corps after graduation, then to teach for two years at Immaculate Conception Academy in San Francisco. Last fall, Izzy joined Marin Catholic’s English Department as a long-term sub, and is delighted to be joining them as a full-time English teacher this year. Outside of teaching, Izzy enjoys baking, long walks, and acting as the newsletter writer and Bible study leader of St. Dominic’s young adult group in  San Francisco, where she lives.

Annie Fox - English Teacher

Andrea (Annie) Fox was born in Maryland but “grew up” in a few different places, as her family moved about the East Coast, South, and Midwest during her childhood. Eventually, she found her way to Miami University, where she majored in both English Literature and Journalism. Her love of the written word and rhetorical theory led her to the University of Cincinnati, where she earned a Master's Degree in Communication and her affection for teaching took root. Annie is thrilled to join the English Department at Marin Catholic. Beyond the pages of a book, she enjoys spending time with her family, pets, and house plants and is particularly fond of cozy spaces and cold windy weather.

Matt Heron - Science

Matthew (Matt) was born in San Diego but grew up in Menifee, California. Throughout his life, Matt thought he would become a doctor, as he loved helping people and was fascinated by medicine and science. He attended UC Santa Cruz to pursue his dreams and earned his degree in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology. After finishing college, Matt obtained his EMT license to continue his steps toward becoming a doctor. However, during COVID, he got a job as a substitute teacher for the Diocese of San Bernardino. He fell in love with teaching and soon became the Biology/Astronomy teacher at Notre Dame High School in Riverside, where he remained for three years. Matt is ecstatic to join the Science Department this upcoming school year! He enjoys spending time with his wife, rock climbing, sports, video games, hiking, and long road trips.

Oliver Hunt - History

Oliver grew up in Petaluma, California, which at the time had the feeling of being a small town. After falling in love with books and the “intellectual life” while pondering philosophy at community college, he began preparing himself to one day become a pedagoge in the style of those who had inspired him. After a relatively brief hiatus working in the insurance and risk management world following the 2009 recession, he attended the University of San Francisco to study education and begin his teaching career. After teaching history and literature for several years at St. Vincent de Paul High School in Petaluma, Oliver is happily joining the team at Marin Catholic. Oliver has a predilection for books, jazz, and going on many and varied adventures with his two children,

Sister Hyacinth - History

Sr. Hyacinth grew up in Ottawa, ON, Canada. While studying political science at Queen’s University (Kingston, ON), she discerned a call to religious life. After completing her BA, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist in 2003. Sister made her first profession in 2006 and her final vows in 2011. She holds a post-baccalaureate teaching certification in political science and French from Eastern Michigan University and a Master of Arts in Thomistic Studies (theology) from the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception (Washington, DC). Sister has taught junior high history and religion at Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary School in Sacramento, CA and 10th and 11th grade world and US history at St. John XXIII College Preparatory in Katy, TX. She is excited to join the history department at Marin Catholic this year. In her spare time, Sister enjoys reading, embroidery, and playing the french horn.

Nicki Mullen - Counseling

Nicki was born and raised in Southern California and attended Santa Clara University, majoring in psychology.  She later received her Master of Education degree from Harvard University where she completed a practicum assessing teens for suicidality.  She was an employment counselor in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and then had a 25+ year career in corporate market research working in a wide variety of industries. She had a 6 year career change to at home parenting before returning to the corporate world. Through it all, she kept her interest in education alive as a very active volunteer student mentor, math teacher, parish school of religion teacher, cub scout leader, and district volunteer.  Recently, she studied college counseling at UC Berkeley Extension while working as an independent college counselor. She lives in San Rafael with her husband and two sons. She is thrilled to be joining the Marin Catholic Counseling Department and combining her skills and experiences from all areas of her life into her work with our students.

Ryan Sweeney - English

During his undergraduate studies, Ryan began reading Russian literature and developed a passion for reading. He went back to Duquesne University and obtained his M.A.T in secondary English. Prior to MC, Ryan taught at a public school in the suburbs of Pittsburgh and at a boarding school in Boston, MA.
