Ever since the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, joined the Marin Catholic community in 2011, lives have been changed, minds have been opened, unique unions have been formed, and Marin Catholic's mission of faith, knowledge & service has been strengthened. This week, our community had the opportunity to meet the core of this opportunity.

Marin Catholic graciously welcomed Mother Mary Assumpta Long, O.P., the mother superior and founder of Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, to campus. Her four-day visit included student-led tours, official visitations to her Sisters' classes, meetings with teachers and administrators, and opportunities to meet the students. The classrooms were alive with energy and laughter as students presented projects and shared what they are learning in class. Mother spoke to the students, gave advice and answered questions. Stories were told, songs were sung and many smiles and hugs were exchanged. The students thanked Mother Assumpta for the opportunity to be taught by these amazing women and shared that they are now better people because of the Sisters.

Mother Mary Assumpta Long, O.P. is the Prioress General and one of four founding members of the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Community was formed as a response to the call of Pope John Paul II issued in his Post-Synodal Exhortation, Vita Consecrata, to establish new foundations that will “bear witness to the constant attraction which the total gift of self to the Lord…continues to exert even on the present generation (VC, 12).” The community has grown from four to over 100 sisters since its foundation in February 1997 and presently has sisters teaching in eight dioceses.

Mother Assumpta holds a S.T.L. in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas. She has formerly served as President of the Forum of Major Superiors and has also served on various boards, including the Institute on Religious Life.
