Students Make Soup for Ash Wednesday Lenten Soup Drive

Our Lenten season here at Marin Catholic began with our annual Lenten Soup Drive on Ash Wednesday where more than the half the school participated to make it possible.
One of the many ways we are able to get the school community involved during this liturgical season is through this soup drive. A major part of why we do the Lenten soup drive is so that the Catholic church is called to penance, almsgiving, and fasting during the season. A great way to focus on your relationship with God and others is by giving of yourself whether it be time or by donating towards the soup drive--something most of our students were able to do.

Our annual Lenten soup drive focuses on giving to those in need around the world through Catholic Relief Services. The proceeds from this year’s Lenten soup drive went towards Bangladesh refugee camps to help provide better resources from those fleeing from Myanmar to escape violence. This soup drive is significant because it allows us to open our hearts and donate to those who are in need. It’s a time where the community can come together and we are able to eat in solidarity.

In order to make this possible we had about 45 students help prepare the soup and serve. About 20 students helped us prepare the soup Tuesday after school by chopping the vegetables for the soup. Around 25 students were in the kitchen during break after mass to serve the soup while some were working the registrars. The student body participated by purchasing a soup bowl for $5 that will be donated to the Lenten soup drive for the Bangladesh refugee camps. More than half the school donated towards this cause. Our annual Lenten soup drive is one of the greatest ways Marin Catholic gets involved by giving towards others and strengthening our relationship with God and helping our brothers and sisters across the globe.
