Dear Sophomore Students and Parents:

I hope this message finds you well! My name is Mrs. Lianni Castro-Teets and I am part of the Campus Ministry Team at Marin Catholic. It is my privilege to be of service to your students as they participate in the Sophomore Overnight Retreat this year. The Sophomore Overnight is a mandatory overnight experience that focuses on developing the spiritual and social life of our students. Our retreat theme is “Strengthening Your CORE”. The students will devote time to physically strengthening their cores with fun community builders and exercises to mirror the time they will spend purifying and strengthening their inner cores with prayer, discussion, and reflection.

This email contains information that will help you to support your child in participating in and benefitting from their retreat.

Retreat Date Assignments: September 28-29, 2023
Students will arrive at school between 7:30am-8:00am, place their bags in the gym and attend their first class of the day (B Block). At break, all retreat participants will meet at the gym to load their belongings onto the bus and depart. The expected return will be at 2:15 p.m. on Friday.

Packing List - What to Bring

Retreat Site: This retreat will be held at Alliance Redwoods Conference Center in Occidental. Students will room with classmates of the same gender and will need to bring a sleeping bag and pillow.

Retreat Cost: The cost of the retreat is $250 per student. The cost includes bus transportation, lodging, retreat supplies and meals. The Business Office will charge your TADs account at the beginning of September.

Parental Permission Forms: Each student must turn in a completed and signed parental permission form. Please fill out this Permission Slip by Friday, Sept 15th. This can be emailed back or turned in to the Campus Ministry Offices. Parents and students will receive email reminders regarding the deadline to submit the form.

Students should also email their teachers to let them know they will be on Retreat.

Alliance Redwoods requires every participant to fill out a Waiver.
Please go to this link to fill out the form for your child. Please fill out this Waiver by Friday, Sept 8th. https://tinyurl.com/15803MarinCathSept

Food Allergies and Dietary Restrictions: Any food allergies or dietary restrictions need to be communicated via email. The sooner this information is received, the better our communication will be with the food service staff at each retreat.

Each student is asked to bring snacks to share (enough for 25 other people). Please bring individually wrapped snacks to lessen the spread of germs. NO NUTS or food products with NUTS or SESAME. (eg. granola bars, cuties, individually packaged bags of chips or cookies, fruit snacks are encouraged)

I look forward to working with our Student Leadership team and your children in creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for their retreat. Retreats are often described by students as high-light experiences of their time in high school and they leave them with good memories as well as personal and spiritual growth. Thank you for your support of this retreat opportunity. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

In Christ’s Peace,

Mrs. Lianni Castro Teets

The theme of this retreat is "Strengthening Your Core." The retreat participants will devote time to physically strengthening their cores with physical exercise and fun activities to mirror the time they will spend purifying and strengthening their inner cores with prayer, discussion, and reflection. This retreat is animated by Jesus’ example of taking time to nurture and strengthen Himself (Luke 5:16). Through prayer, group work, and personal reflection activities, retreat participants will be invited to a deeper relationship with themselves, God, one another, and the greater community.
