The Work Horse of a 1997 Ford F-350
Square body, steel shoulders
Paint run down like an old work shirt
Bench seat faded from the hot summers
The key turns with a stubborn clank
The engine roars to life like my grandpa
Clearing his throat before dawn breaks
The press of the gas pedal
The growl comes to life
Dumping diesel smoke upon the quiet street
My grandpas knuckles rough as gravel on the wheel
Taught me everything I know about these beautiful rigs
It runs loud because he is
Strong and stubborn
Everytime it starts up it sounds a little more like him
