Students Prepare Soup for Catholic Relief Service

Wednesday, March 5 marks the beginning or our Lenten journey together. Lent is a time for Catholics to focus on a heightened attention toward prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.  Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting (one regular meal and two snacks that do not constitute a full meal).  One way to participate in fasting and almsgiving is to purchase the soup made by our students in the Cafe.  All proceeds this year are going to Catholic Relief Services in Kenya where our friend Peter Kimeu hales.  The students felt that the issue of hunger and poverty is something we sometimes take for granted and wanted to bring awareness and assistance to this basic human need.  In solidarity with our cause, the Cafe is selling nothing else on this day and donating their resources to this cause. Almsgiving is a concrete way to care for those in need, and is an expression of gratitude toward all God has given us.
