MC Drama Steals the Stage

This past November, Marin Catholic Drama presented Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing.  This 500 year old script full of mischief, witty quips, and mistaken identities, was made fun and fresh, set in the "Wild West".
The stage set depicted an old western town with a saloon, a jail, and a pony express stop. Costumes included long pioneer skirts, military outfits that replicated the Spanish-American war uniforms, a sheriff costume, and western-style yoked shirts.  The show also featured a live band made up of a trio of students from MC's Music Department.

The students rehearsed for 3 months before bringing the show in front of an audience.  This rehearsal period involved intense study of the meaning and meter of Shakespeare's language.  Once the words were fully processed and memorized, the students were able to explore the comedy of the piece, and find ways to bring the difficult language to life for their peers and families.

Much Ado About Nothing was performed in MC's Poetz Theater (Performing Arts Center), November 6 through November 9.
