Friday night marked the first NCS Win for the Wildcats in 10 years, defeating Cardinal Newman 61-54.  The Wildcats had a scorching start, going up 8-0 early in the first quarter.  It wasn't until Frankie Calcaterra hit a 3-pointer to put the score at 11-3 that the student section came alive.  As planned, the fans sat in their seats and didn't say a word until the 10th point was scored.  Calcaterra's 3 helped put an exclamation point on Silent Night and the ensuing monster celebration.  The momentum continued into the second quarter.  Solid defense and quick scoring were key to the Wildcats breakout quarter.  Back to back dunks by Charlie Duysen and Calcaterra helped propel the Wildcats to a 20-point lead in the 2nd quarter.

The #1 seeded Cardinals showed no sign of giving up, ending the first half with an 8-0 run that extended into a 10-0 run before the Wildcats could stop the bleeding.  The second half continued the excitment with scoring on both sides, but the Cats extedned their lead to 50-37 to end the 3rd quarter.
Some breakdowns in commuication, fouls and impressive shooting by the Cardinals proved for a true championship finish.  While the Cats never trailed, the Cardinals did bring the difference to 4 points twice, the second being a 57-53 score with 53.5 seconds on the clock.  It was a Jackson Snyder layup and a Sepehr Agnese free throw pair, though, that sealed the deal for the Wildcats.

Joey Calcaterra had 18 points to lead the Wildcats scoring effort, while brother Frankie had 17, Charlie Duysen 10, Sepehr Agnese and Andrew Panicacci each had 6, and Jackson Snyder added 4.
