Mountain Biking Update: Laguna Seca

Race 3 Report - Laguna Seca
Race 3 Report
Sunny and windy. The sound of race-cars on the track in the background at Laguna Seca. Marin Catholic was in Monterey for NorCal High School Mountain Bike Race number three, which marks the half-way point of the season. And what a weekend! Freshman Siena McGibben started us off, like the girls always do, and placed sixth in the challenging Laguna Seca 5 mile loop, so she was able to hold onto a 6th place ranking in her division. All her team-mates cheered her on, and she did the same for them, staying the entire day and roaming the hills with her dad to support the team. Next was the freshman boys, and Dawson Gordon was pleased to be able to place 10th (top ten!) in this race, which moves him forward into 11th place in his field overall. Our sophomore boys were also both pleased with their races: Nick Abell placed 31, and Evan Sabadel placed 41. Nick is now ranked 36th overall, and Evan is 47th. Finally, the whole team stayed long enough to support our two JV riders as they started their races, and the solidarity was important, since their race was a full four laps (20 miles) on this grueling course in the sun and the wind, and every bit of support was appreciated. Drew Nash finished 12th (and would have done better if he drank water during the race!), and Morgan Schmitz finished 15th, the two riders supporting each other on the course the entire race. Morgan is now ranked 11th overall in the largest field of the league, and Drew is ranked 47th (from missing race two). As a team, the combined efforts of these six racers placed them 9th for the day, and the MC Mountain Biking team is now ranked 11th overall, which shows great improvement, and speaks to the value of having every team member at the races, committed to their event. This wouldn’t happen without strong and supportive coaching, involved and supportive parents, and the dedication of our student-athletes. We’re looking forward to Race #4, which will be in Petaluma on Saturday April 11, and to the support of the MC community at what will be our closest venue of the season. Great job today, and Go Cats!
