Wildcats Fall to Giants

Fanny Gamble
The Wildcats lost to the Redwood Giants 8-1 in MCAL play.
Just wanted to give you a quick recap on our match against Redwood High: We lost 8:1.

Since I had to put our best top players in doubles, I've had to "sacrifice" some of the girls for singles, sorry about that.
So, Maria played against their first seed, she was very good(nationally ranked). Maria gave her best shot, played as good as she could that day, and lost 6:0, 6:0. Nice try Maria!

Natalie played against their second seed, who was also a nationally ranked player, Natalie fought every point returning great shot against her opponent, Natalie managed to get her opponent out of focus the first set, but didn't help much in the second. Natalie lost 6:3, 6:0.

Leila played against a similar great player, who moved Leila from one side to the other. leila did her best returning the shots, but it was tough. Leila lost 6:0, 6:0. (sorry Leila , that was a big sacrifice, but I hope you've learned something in the process).

Daisy was another sacrifice, who played a great nationally ranked player, Daisy kept the ball in the court, playing long points, the wind didn't help either. Daisy lost 6:0, 6:0.

Emma played exceptionally well against their 5th seed, playing long points, keeping the ball in the court, hitting variety of shots to her opponent, Emma had a great chance to take the first set, and the match, but the lack of mental toughness and experience made her loose 6:4, 6:2. That was a great match/fight Emma, I have full confidence that next time you'll get her. Great job!

The superstar of the match was Isabelle, who played a great player. Isabelle managed to get her out of focus, keeping calm, and keeping the ball in the court, had many long points, but she never gave up and kept fighting.
Isabelle, even though she'd won the first set 6:3, and couldn't believe it, kept on going and playing the same way she did in the first set, made her win the second set and match 6:3, 6:4. Great mental toughness Isabelle, I'm proud of you!

Cassie and Jackie played together, they've played well first set, they were up 4:3, but then they decided they want to just hit the ball no matter what, and lost many of their shots. They've lost 6:4, 6:3. Nice try girls, next time we'll talk about doubles strategies.

Claire and Riley played against a good opponents, they've attacked our players at the net, had great shots, and gave our girls not much of a chance to hit the ball. They've lost 6:1, 6:0. Nice try girls.

Britt and Mikaela played another tough players, who had great volley, great strokes and they knew how to separate the two and finish the ball. Britt and Mikaela did their best, but doubles is a game that needs to have a strategy, I'll have to work with the girls on that.

Thank you very much to the girls and parent, who were cheering for the team, it means a lot.

Finally, I've noticed in some matches that a lot of the girls don't call the lines, some of you have taken serves that were way out. two of you lost the first set when your opponent finished the volley touching the net. That was a great experience playing against them, and the important thing is to try and have fun, not to be stressed, what ever the outcome is. I'm proud of all of you for trying and do your best on and off the court.

Now that I know what we're up against, my line up is going to be better next time, and with some hope and determination, we'll get more then one point.

I'm starting to send recaps with pictures of the players during match times, please send me pictures of your child if you want them to be posted on the school site.

Go Wildcats !!!
