Today, Friday, November 18, we welcomed our Marin Catholic grandparents and special friends to MC’s annual Thanksgiving Mass, followed by a special reception with iced tea and treats hosted by President Tim Navone and Principal Chris Valdez in the Saint John Paul II Student Center.

Marin Catholic’s longstanding, annual tradition recognizes the unique love that exists between grandparents and grandchildren. We are proud to host this special event where our community celebrates the many blessings our families and students have in their lives.

Grandparents Day began with an all-school Thanksgiving Mass to honor our blessing of grandparents. Thomas Lippi, cherished English teacher on campus, opened the Mass with a testimony on his experience of becoming a grandfather this year. He welcomed the fellow grandparents and related to their fondness of watching their children's children grow and learn.

Monsignor Sheeran celebrated the Mass and called to mind the act of giving thanks. He encouraged us to not only say "thank you" and be one of gratitude, but that we can live a lifestyle of thanksgiving. Our good deeds and love can help others recognize and glorify God. The Gospel message of giving thanks for all that God has given us is one that we try to live throughout the year as a Marin Catholic community.

At the end of Mass Susan Dawson and Collin Martin gave a tribute to their grandparents. Susan recalled the cherished memories of Wednesday afternoons at Grandma's house. Collin thanked his grandparents for bringing him into their home and witnessing the Catholic faith. Collin became Catholic through the Sacraments Program at MC with the support of his grandparents.

After the Mass, the grandparents joined their grandchildren for a breakfast reception with iced tea and treats. Many of the grandparents walked through campus to admire students' artwork and to visit the sacred space of the chapel. We are blessed by our grandparents and thank them for their continual support and love to the students.
