Marin Catholic Celebrates the Immaculate Conception

On the Immaculate Conception, we celebrated the Blessed Virgin Mary being born without original sin, which is why we say "Hail Mary, full of grace." The Girls’ League Club and Varsity Men’s Football Team participated in the Mass by reading the scripture passages, offering prayers of the faithful, and serving the Mass.
On the Immaculate Conception, we celebrated the Blessed Virgin Mary being born without original sin, which is why we say "Hail Mary, full of grace." We are reminded that when God's grace fills our lives, we are drawn to goodness. This solemnity comes during our second week of Advent as we continue to prepare for the continual encounter we have with Christ in our lives, and how we can prepare for His second coming. Senior student Lauren Dixon began the Mass with a reflection on her mother’s miraculous healing from a tumor. She recalled, “I’m sharing my story of a miraculous healing in my life to reflect on the gift and power of prayer on this feast of Mary, the Immaculate Conception. Mary acts as a loving connection between us and God. For me, the prayers of this community made all the difference when my mom was sick. Today’s celebration reminds us that Mary is the best person to ask for prayers! I know that Mary heard all the prayers of Marin Catholic for my mom. Since Mary has no stain of sin, she is the closest to God, which makes her the best person to bring our prayers to the Lord. Even though we are not perfect, we have a perfect mother who knows what we need and brings those needs to God. It is through her that miracles like my mom’s, happen! I am so grateful for the miracle God gave to my mom and me, for the gift of all those who prayed for her healing, and for the gift of Mary to the world as our heavenly mother. Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, pray for us!”

Monsignor’s homily reminded us how the Blessed Mary is recognized throughout the world as a Queen of Peace. He recalled that the National Geographic Magazine deemed Mary the world’s most powerful woman in their December 2015 issue.  As a community of faith, Marin Catholic asks for Mary’s intercession in bringing us closer to her son, Jesus. Her mantle of protection guides us and supports us in our academic and personal endeavors.
